Hello crafty friends! Yes we coming up near the end of the month, but you still have a few days left to join in on the fun and play along with us for a chance to win a great prize from our sponsor.
I absolutely love this cute chubby little unicorn...he is just so fun, so I knew that the card had to be just as fun and cute! But tbh this wasn't my original idea...to begin I had made a whole 'nother card and while it was super cute and I really did love it, I came with another idea spur of the moment, so it had to be done. I wasn't even trying to think of a different idea for it, but I am so glad I did.
For my background I did some light ink blending using 3 different colours of Distress Oxide ink - Spun Sugar, Squeezed Lemonade and Tumbled Glass. Next I cut out the stitched rectangle frame and 2 stitched clouds - 1 for the top and 1 for the bottom of my shaker box. I adhered them altogether along with a piece of acetate for the shaker window using some strong glue. For the dimension for my shaker and also to make sure that it was high enough so that my sequins could move around freely, I lined my window panel with foam tape but I doubled it up. By doubling the height of the foam tape, it would definitely be high enough for the bits to move and shake. I then added a mix of iridescent clear stars, iridescent sequins and a pre-mixed bit of sequins that matched the colours of the unicorn perfectly.
I then ran a paintbrush with some anti-static powder on it all around the edge of the foam tape on the shaker window to remove any stickiness that may be there, so that the shaker bits do not stick to it, or as minimal as possible. Next I adhered it all together and added my unicorn and a few more sequins to the front of it. I then realized that the sentiment that I had previously done wasn't going to work for this card, so I very carefully stamped my sentiment on the cloud, making sure to get a good stamped impression because there was no do over. Thank goodness it came out perfect!
And that's it! Shaker cards really aren't that hard or complicated...or at least they don't need to be, especially when you start out with a fantastic image that is coloured and ready to go! I really hope you love my card just as much as I do! It was so fun to make and this unicorn is just the sweetest ever! I am in love with him!
