Wishing You a Colorful Day - Clever Dexter Challenge #15
Hello and welcome back! Today I am sharing a card for the Clever Dexter challenge #15. We are almost at the end of the month but you still have a few days left to enter the challenge for a chance to win some super cute digital images from the sponsor Stampers Delight.
For my card today I have used this sweet
girl from the digital set Chibi Crafty Girls 1. There are also 2 other images
in this set, but I decided to use only the girl holding the paintbrush for today.
To
make this card I first printed, cut out on my Scan N Cut and started to
colour my crafty girl. I wanted her to be bright and lots of fun (or at
least her hair), so I went for a palette of bright pink, a bit of
purple and blues for her dress and hairbows. I also coloured her shoes
and trim on her dress in black (for a classic look as the rest would be
colourful) using a black pigment ink pen.
I
set her aside and started on my background. Since this was a
watercolour background challenge, I of course decided to make a
watercolour background. I made 2 other backgrounds at first, but I
wasn't happy with either of them, as I wanted it to be nice and bright
and colourful and my watercolours just weren't cutting it. So I turned
to the few Distress Oxide inks that I have ( I now know that I need more
of them.....if not all of them) and did some ink smooshing. Oh my
gosh...why did no one tell me about how amazing they look! The colours
stay so true and vibrant and they layer beautifully on top of one
another! And although I did pick a colour palette of more pastel-ish
tones, they worked perfectly together.
I
first diecut my watercolour paper prior to adding the ink and then I
took the ink pads and went directly to my glass work surface, spritzed
them with water and just smooshed my paper into the ink moving it around
the spread the colour. I dried them in between adding more colour using
my heat gun and continued until I was happy with it.
To finish it off I added some flecks of black to tie in the sentiment and then added it all to my card base using some foam tape and then the final touch of some colourful sequins.
And that's it for me today! I absolutely love how this card turned out...exactly if not better than I had envisioned. This may have been my first time but will most definitely not be the last time that I use the distress oxide inks to do some ink smooshing!
